SCROLL #001: THE MONKEY AND THE MANGO TREE

Shortcut Has Teeth

Fiction | Disclaimer: This is a fictional fable. Any resemblance to real persons or events is coincidental.

THE OFFER
The monkey was tired of climbing. He hadn’t eaten in days, and his weakness showed.
The snake approached him: “Why climb for hours when I can swing you to the top in minutes?” The monkey accepted. The Snake smiled cunningly. He had no legs, but he had a plan.

THE RIDE
Snake coiled around the Monkey. Monkey held tight for the free ride.
Halfway up, the Snake whispered: “All the mangoes we pick today, we will share them 70 for me, 30 for you.”
The Monkey objected. “Why the sudden change?”
“That’s the deal for speed,” the Snake said with pride. Monkey agreed.

THE FALL
At the top, Monkey finished picking the mangoes. Snake gave him one banana. Monkey took it anxiously.
Then the Snake let go. “70/30 starts now,” Snake said, and slid away with the basket of Mangoes.
Weak and betrayed, the Monkey fell and broke his tail. No mangoes as promised. Just a finger of banana.

THE LESSON
A ride without a road has no brakes.
If you don’t walk the path, you won’t control the fall. Be careful who you trust. They will use your slightest weakness to betray you.

BOTTOM LINE
Choose slow legs over fast teeth.
